Managing Partner Michael Zhu Honored as One of Forbes’ “Top 100 VC Investors in China”, 2018

Michael has over 15 years of experience in the VC industry. He focuses on the IoT, SaaS, Cloud, and Fintech sectors. He has participated and led investments into PICOOC, WaveOptics, CloudCare, Teambition, Cloudwise, Airwallex, and GoGoVan. Michael is also a mentor for the IBM Global Entrepreneur SmartCamp Startup Competition and the China Youth Business Development Competition.

In 2012 and 2015, Michael was a leading partner for Gobi’s two RMB funds, Gobi Yingzhi and Zhiying. He successfully raised RMB750 M for these funds. In 2016, he also participated in Gobi’s successful campaign to manage Alibaba’s Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund, which has a size of HK$1 B.

Michael graduated from Donghua University in Shanghai, with a B.A. in Computer Automation.

Forbes China has been publishing their list of “Best VC Investors” for over 10 years. According to the publication, there are 92 males and eight females among the Top 100 this year. In terms of age distribution, investors usually fall into the 40 – 59 years of age category. This is because investment is a comprehensive industry with all-rounded requirements. Therefore, investors with sufficient experience are needed. Among the list, 11% were 30 – 39 years old, 38% were 40 – 49 years old, 47% were 50 – 59 years old, and 4% were 60 and above.

Forbes concluded that in in addition to enjoying the higher bonuses when an investee company does well, investment firms and investors must also pay attention to precipitation and quality accumulation. Only in this way can the VC industry continue to grow and develop in changing times, truly helping companies to fundraise and concurrently transform and improve the industry as a whole.
